Wordpress has proven itself time and time again as the most useful and most equipped blogging platform around. It’s vast array of resources and numerous plugins that make changing the appearance, content and appeal of a blog as simple as pointing and clicking have catapulted it into the realm of one of the most commonly downloaded open source applications on the internet.

Wordpress Being Open Source is Vital

Open source programming is nothing new, but it has always been something special. The concept is simple; programmers build a working model for a piece of software and then hand over all of that code to whomever wants it, allowing other users to make changes or adjustments and build add-ons. Hundreds of free internet distributed programs follow the open-source philosophy and are thus infinitely more viable than static programs that are constantly waiting for updates from a major corporation. For Wordpress, this means that new additions and updates are available almost constantly, repairing bugs much faster than Microsoft could ever manage.

Something everyone wants to be able to do is change the look of their blog to suit their personality. One thing that open source programs like Wordpress allow that in-house projects do not is the endless library of plug-ins that users are constantly churning out. There are thousands of Wordpress users who have thought of a function they want available in Wordpress and created a plug-in that works seamlessly with Wordpress’s software to make that function possible.

These are distributed freely across the internet and new functions are constantly available. It allows users to not only alter and change their blog editing power on a whim, but to keep up to date with new ideas from thousands of other bloggers around the world. You can do everything from keeping track of your stats from around the world to create a rotating picture gallery.

The support and constant upgrades available.

Wordpress has constant support, run by a handful of the millions of users currently using the platform. With so many users writing code and plug-ins for the application and so many more using it to its full potential it’s almost impossible to not find someone with the knowledge you need when you have a problem. Similarly, because of the open source nature of the program, bugs and out of date features are updated almost constantly, making Wordpress one of the better supported platforms on the internet.
